Midjourney
Subscription image generator known for stylised, painterly results
Visit Midjourney (opens in a new tab)Midjourney turns text prompts (and optional reference images) into images, and can also animate stills into short video clips. You work in its web app or through its Discord server, refining results with variations, upscales, and parameters that control aspect ratio, stylisation, and consistency of characters or styles.
It suits illustrators, concept artists, and marketers who care most about the look of an image and are happy to iterate on prompts. Exact text rendering and precise layout control are not its main focus, so tools built around typography may be a better fit for posters or logos.
There is no free plan. Four subscription tiers (Basic, Standard, Pro, Mega) differ mainly in how much fast GPU time you get, and annual billing is about 20% cheaper. Companies with more than $1M in yearly gross revenue must use Pro or Mega.
