Runway generates video clips from text, images, or existing footage, and includes editing tools for tasks like restyling shots, extending scenes, and removing objects. It also produces still images, and offers a developer API for building its models into other products.

It is aimed at filmmakers, advertisers, and creators experimenting with generative footage. Clips are short and often take several attempts to get right, so it works best as one part of a wider editing workflow rather than a one-click video maker.

Everything runs on credits. The free plan provides a one-time batch of credits rather than a monthly refill. Paid tiers (Standard, Pro, Max) include monthly credits and are cheaper when billed yearly; team, enterprise, and API usage are priced separately.
