Claude

Claude is the AI assistant made by Anthropic. It handles the usual chat-assistant jobs (drafting, editing, summarising, answering questions, analysing documents and data) and can work with long files, connect to tools such as Google Drive or Slack, and search the web.

It suits people who do a lot of reading and writing, and developers: paid plans include Claude Code, Anthropic’s agentic coding tool for the terminal and IDE. There are desktop apps for Mac, Windows and Linux (Linux is in beta), mobile apps, a Chrome extension, and a separate developer API.

The free plan has tighter usage limits. Pro is $20 a month (cheaper if paid annually), and Max plans start at $100 a month for heavier use. Team and Enterprise plans are available for organisations, and API usage is billed separately.
