Gemini is Google’s general-purpose AI assistant. You can chat with it to draft and edit text, ask questions, analyse files and images, or run longer research tasks that gather web sources into a report. It is available on the web, as mobile apps and as a desktop app for Windows and macOS, and developers can reach the underlying models through Google’s API.

It suits people who already live in Google’s ecosystem, since paid plans bring Gemini into Gmail, Docs and other Google apps. Anyone who wants a capable all-round assistant with a usable free tier will also find it a reasonable starting point.

The free plan only needs a Google account. In the US, Google AI Plus starts at $4.99 a month and Google AI Pro costs $19.99 a month, both raising usage limits and adding features; Google AI Ultra sits at the top for heavy use. Business customers are offered separate Gemini Enterprise plans.
